Mr. L.C. Burks

Mr. LC Burks was born on April 27, 1920 in Troy, Alabama (Pike County). He was the third child born to John and Ophelia (Tepsie) Dunn Burks (Both deceased). At a very young age, LC was baptized in Alabama at White Water Baptist Church. On July 18, 1947, LC was united in Holy Matrimony to Jureen McLeod-Jones (deceased). To this union seven children were born. In May of 1963, LC moved his family to Cleveland, Ohio, for better opportunities. LC and his family joined Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Leroy Kelly. After his death, Rev. Larry L. Harris became his Pastor. He was a long standing and faithful member. In 1994, he and Jureen relocated to Brundidge, Alabama, where they became members of County Line Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. O. L. Gamble where the current pastor is Rev. Carl Hollis. LC served in the army from 1942-1945 during World War II where he worked in the transportation department. He was able to use this experience in other areas of employment. He worked for Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama for many years before moving to Cleveland, Ohio. He worked as a driver in the Motor Pool division for the Veteran Administration Dept (hospitals) and after approximately 30 years with the Federal Government, he retired in 1980. LC was a loving devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He truly loved his family and was always concerned about their well-being. He shared many stories about his brothers and sisters, and he stayed in contact with many friends over the years. He thoroughly enjoyed family reunions! He and Jureen provided accommodations for family members that sought to further their education and assisted them in any way the could. LC always delighted in traveling back to Alabama to visit with family and friends. He especially loved taking trips with his brothers. He enjoyed good food, watching game shows, boxing, westerns and televised preaching. He had a very sharp memory, and was the person to go to, if you needed information on birthdays, addresses, telephone numbers, etc. He had a quiet sense of humor and was a joy to be around. He was so very generous in many ways. After a brief illness, LC Burks departed this life and entered his eternal home on January 31, 2015. He lived a long life and was very grateful for the time that God gave him. We will forever cherish the time, memories and over throughout the years. LC will be greatly missed by his children, family and loved ones. He leaves to cherish and embrace his memories, His children: Joe (Glory) of Cleveland, OH; Jimmie Clarence (Shirley) of Bedford Hts., OH; Harold (Nanette) of Warrensville Hts., OH; Mary McGraw (Robert) of Warner Robbins, GA; Sandra Yvonne of Chicago, IL; Lenda Sojourner (Dan) of Fairlawn, OH; and Melvin Wayne of Brundidge, AL. He also leaves behind three sisters, Helen Tubbs of Cleveland, OH; Janie Pearl Tucker of Philadelphia, PA; and Sarah Harris (Andrew) of Southfield, MI; Two brothers, Ralph Flowers (Helga) of Browns Mils, New Jersey; Jerry Flowers (Debbie) of Linden, NJ; Six sisters-in-law: Annie Dorothy Burks of Cleveland, OH; Charlotte Walker of Jackson, MS; Carol Jones of Brundidge, AL; Camilla Dumas (Joseph) of Headland, AL; Mildred Burks of Brundidge, AL; and Freddie Jones of Montgomery, AL; fifteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
