Mrs. Gwendolyn Jean Boswell

Mrs. Gwendolyn Jean Boswell was born on September 28, 1950 in Troy, AL, to the late Elma Mae Martin and James Rumph. The eldest of 12 children, she devoted her life to her family. Even during her final hours, she was surrounded by friends and family, which is a testament to how she lived her life. On Wednesday, June 3, 2015, she received her final call; her most important call, asking her to join the angelic army of our Lord and Savior. She accepted Christ early in life and was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church of Troy, AL, and she was an active servant of City Without Walls of Troy, AL. In July of 1975, Jean, as family and friends know her, took on the responsibility of raising her younger siblings as well as her only child, Garry. She was the centralized figure for her family. Her love for her sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and friends is undeniable. Not only was she a prominent member of her family, she was also a staple citizen of the West-end community. When she spoke, her message was direct, clearly conveyed and delivered in only a way that Jean could. Her husband, Johnny Boswell; grandparents, Willie Mae Collins, Delma “Candyman” Martin, Doc and Estella Mae Rumph; parents; two brothers, and other family members preceded her in death. Her infectious laugh lives on through her family - Son, Garry Rumph, Montgomery, AL; siblings, Eddie (Melissa) Grimes, Jacqueline Smith, Moncks Corner, SC; Janice Martin, Montgomery, AL; Christine (Paul) Scott-Parham, Gloria (Freddie) King, Jeritha (Willie) Davis, Troy, AL; Evangeline Martin, Memphis, TN; Jennifer Martin, Jacksonville, AL; Lamon Martin, Ft. Walton, FL; and Mary Stinson, Enterprise, AL; aunts, Dorothy (QT) McBride, Sarah (Moses) Logan, Helen Coleman, Troy, AL; Patricia Cogburn, Baltimore, MD; uncles, Willie Melvin (Mamie) Peterson and Nathan Peterson, Troy, AL; Mother-in-Law, Fannie Lou Boswell, Troy, AL; Sisters-in-Law, and an army of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, and other family members and special friends. Mrs. Boswell's Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2015, at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Troy, AL. The Committal Service will follow at Mount Gilead Cemetery in Troy. Family and Friends Visitation will be Saturday, June 6, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
